Carl Garvie

Carl was for 17 years a partner with an International law firm and the head of its commercial litigation team in Birmingham. He has acted on a very wide range of corporate disputes, acting for FTSE 100 and international companies, through to owner managed businesses. He has a particular expertise in shareholder disputes, business acquisitions and disposals. The sums concerned have often involved many tens of millions of pounds, but the principles often apply equally to the smaller cases.

Whilst a partner, he gained considerable coal face commercial experience, being the firm’s managing partner in Manchester and the head of its manufacturing sector. He was a regional councillor with the CBI in Manchester. This commercial experience, combined with a very varied and extensive litigation practice, has given him the skill to mediate most commercial disputes. There are not many types of commercial disputes he has not been involved in. His current resolution rate in mediation is well over 95%.

In 2011 Carl was noted by Legal Week as one of the 10 national rising stars at the Bar under 10 years call.
