ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution)

David initially qualified as a Mechanical Engineer. After practising for a number of years within British Coal his career moved towards the commercial sector. In 1993 David joined the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and three years later became their Deputy Director General / Director of Operations. He is qualified and practises as a Chartered Arbitrator and Accredited Mediator.

David regularly acts as an Arbitrator and Mediator and he also represents parties at arbitrations and mediations. As an Arbitrator and Mediator he receives institutional appointments and he is also frequently appointed independently by the Parties.

David’s practice, both within ADR and litigation, covers a broad spread of commercial dispute but due to his Mechanical Engineering background he is often instructed in engineering and construction disputes. However, as an Arbitrator, he has dealt with disputes as varied as a partnership dispute in respect of a large veterinary practice and a dispute about the leasing of aircraft by a major airline. He is also a member of the Attorney General's Civil Panel and as a consequence he is regularly instructed by Government Departments.

David also regularly sits as the Chairman of Football League Commissions. He has chaired approximately 20 such Commissions and he is also the convenor of a panel of Arbitrators, who deal with disputes involving the Motor Industry Codes of Practice for new cars and for repair and service. He has acted as a tutor and examiner for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, which has included marking the Institute’s Award Writing Examination.
