Employment

Jonathan is a specialist practitioner providing a comprehensive service across all areas of Employment Law including Opinions, drafting and representation in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal and Court of Appeal. Jonathan acts for both Claimants and Defendants and appears regularly for Banks, Local Authorities, Police Authorities and NHS Trusts.

Within Employment Law Jonathan’s specialisms include all types of Unfair Dismissal and Equality / Discrimination claims, Public Interest Disclosure, TUPE and Equal Pay matters.

Jonathan represents both large and small clients in all employment matters and successfully defended a £16m claim in one of the largest sex discrimination actions on record and has particular expertise in complex multi-day discrimination proceedings and cases involving allegations of judicial bias (for example, Ansar v Lloyds Bank Plc [2007] IRLR 211 CA).

He is a team player who gets the best out of his witnesses and is an excellent advocate in Court and Tribunal. “A good choice for difficult or rancorous cases.”

John also undertakes commercially related Judicial Review work in the Administrative Court. In the recent reported case from the Administrative Court in Leeds, R (Grimsby Institute) v Learning & Skills Council [2010] 3 EGLR 125, a claim for financial relief founded on legitimate expectations, the judge described John’s legal submissions as “an impressive and comprehensive review of the subject of legitimate expectation in public law”.
