Marisa studied for the post graduate diploma in law after working as a qualified nurse specialising in learning difficulties. She was called to the Bar in 1994. After pupillage Marisa worked as a lawyer and gained experience in personal injury, medical negligence, employment law, and wills, trusts and probate. Marisa has provided consultancy services advising on health and safety issues and regulatory requirements for an NHS trust. In addition she has advised many NHS Organisations and small businesses in relation to high level internal disciplinary matters and has represented them in the Employment Tribunal. Her work has spanned investigations into qualified medical staff and Consultants involving both personal conduct and medical practice and involving the GMC. This included chairing disciplinary and appeal hearings.

Marisa returned to the Bar in July 2012 at Chancery House Chambers. She has a particular interest in contentious wills and trust and probate work. Her work to date has included cases concerning the validity of wills, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependant’s) Act 1975, issues as to the construction of wills and trusts, actions for the removal of personal representatives and other contentious matters arising in the course of the administration of trust and estates. She will also undertake cases in the court of protection and application for the appointment of a Deputy and applications for a statutory will.

Marisa also has a strong interest in property litigation and professional negligence and regularly appears in the county court on interim applications.

Recent work includes:-
  • Advising as to the cause of action and defendant in a case where an employer’s vehicle had a fault which caused a fatality.
  • Advising on the merits of claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.
  • Advising in a contractual claim against an estate by a beneficiary.
  • Advising in relation to product liability.
  • Advising on the merits of claims for professional negligence
