“Stephen Eyre undertakes a healthy mix of commercial, insolvency, property, trusts and probate work. Sources cite his keen grasp of complex technical problems” Chambers UK Guide 2012.

Formerly, a part-time lecturer teaching Land Law at New College, Oxford Stephen has a firm grasp of property law principles. He has advised on, and appeared in, a wide variety of property disputes. These have included disputes over the title to land, boundaries and rights of way, and covenants affecting land. Stephen also acts in commercial landlord and tenant disputes. As a member of the Country Land and Business Association he has particular knowledge of the problems and concerns of rural property owners and businesses.

Stephen has experience of conducting property cases before the Court of Appeal; the Chancery Division; the Lands Tribunal; and in the Land Registry Adjudication process together with resolving property disputes by mediation (both as a mediator and as an advocate in mediation).

Accredited in 2006 Stephen is regularly engaged as a mediator and has a record of successfully mediating disputes involving substantial property holdings complicated by overlapping legal rights and acrimonious personal relationships. He also has experience of mediating contentious probate disputes, multi-party disputes, and professional negligence claims arising out of property transactions.

Trained in the Harvard “Principled Negotiation” approach, Stephen combines his mediation skills with substantial legal knowledge to assist parties in reaching real solutions to real problems. Stephen is not a ‘tea and sympathy’ mediator and he believes in using polite but firm pressure and questioning to enable parties fully to consider their positions and options.

As well as work as a mediator Stephen is a Recorder, a diocesan Chancellor, and a Tribunal Judge sitting on Mental Health cases.
