Intellectual Property Law

Chambers includes among its members counsel who advise and act in most aspects of Intellectual Property Law. The work covers problems arising under both domestic and European Law as well as applicable international conventions and includes:

Patents Representation and advice in patent matters is undertaken in relation to mechanical and electrical patents although not in relation to biotechnology or chemical inventions. The work includes representation and advice in connection with patent disputes in the High Court and appellate courts and in the Patents County Court.

Copyright and Designs
Members of Chambers undertake work relating to literary, musical and artistic copyright and in relation to the recently introduced database right. The creation of a new Community Design right has expanded the work in this area.

Trade Marks and Passing Off
This subject, involving the protection of names, marks, logos and “get up” from use by others, is dealt with by members of Chambers who act in the High Court and the appellate courts and provide advice.

Confidential Information
Trade secrets of a commercial kind are frequently the source of disputes, in particular between employers and their ex-employees. The law in this area has developed rapidly in recent years and has formed an important part of the work of Chambers' IP specialists.

Computer Law
Members of Chambers advise and act in disputes having a technical content. One such field is disputes involving computers in cases conducted in the Technology and Construction Court.

Data Protection
Some members of Chambers have experience in disputes which involve Data Protection Act issues and have appeared in High Court Cases arising under that act.
